This sets the tone for their joint effort as darkness blows over the waters, a ribbon of tinted loops of rose and purple and gold becomes the sky, the seas fill with fish and other creatures, and, finally, tenderly, man and woman are made. Illustrating all this in an appropriately unique fashion are Morin's bold, textured illustrations. Thickly painted swirls of color, touched with shells and lace for the flora, sing of the power of the touching attention to detail that went into the Creation. Grimes' prose usually soars to the occasion, but there are a few slips: when the Son tells Adam and Eve to "Enjoy," he sounds more like a waiter than a creator.
