Title:Forty Acres
Author:Phyllis R. Dixon

This book caught me by surprise because of the title; Forty Acres my mind instantly thought the novel was going to be about slavery and how we want our forty acres and a mule. However, it is a novel that is filled with real issues families face today when siblings think their parents have money, and property and one sibling just mightt get more than the other.

C.W. Washington was a farmer in Dwight County, Arkansas. He had suffered a stroke and allowed his older son to run the farm. Doing the annual family reunion C.W. asked one of his daughter (Carolyn, a IRS attorney) to go over his affairs, and get things in order. All seven of his children had their ideals of how, and what C.W. should do with his money and land. All seven children had their own personal problems they were dealing with (adultery, teen pregnancy, interracial marriage, gambling, drugs, children and greed).

Phyllis novel is filled with drama, humor, spiritual and a little bit of sex. I would high recommend this book. Pick it up; you will even learn a little bit of black history.

Title:Indigo Blue

This was an excellent read!!!! Once I started it I couldn't put it down. It was filled with drama, passion, and love. I highly recommend this book to everyone. It is a page-turner, and don't let the size fool you. I await the next book. WHERE IS IT???

Indigo was a fine black single mother, and holding down her own. Her son's father is incarcerated. Indigo decides to let him, all the drama and broken promises that comes with a relationship go.

Kofi is a good man who has been hurt. Also guards his heart and not let a woman get to close. Kofi knows how to awake a woman senses and draws their attention.

They have mutual friends, who set up a blind date between the two. They are attracted to each other, but after Kofi learns of Indigo past, he wants no part, so his mind tells him, but his heart does have a say in the matter. Kofi has to decide if Indigo is worth letting his wanna be girl friends go. The question is will she go quietly or will she bring unnecessary drama in Indigo life.

Do they decide to follow their hearts? Will their SO CALL friends allow their relationship to exist?

In this "GHETTO STORY" Mrs. Williams takes you for a ride though Nasir and Loretta life. How do you do right without anyone positive in your life? Everyone around you seems to be in the same boat as you. His grandmother raised Marvin Bundy II, better known as Nasir, because his father (hustler/pimp) is dead (all he knows about his father is what people tell him) and his mother (also a hustler) is in jail. After Nasir is fed up with being a 2-bit hustler, just having enough he help Mama Flossy, and keeping up with the latest styles, he steps up his game and become the hustler that?s in his blood. Now he has money, cars, and women, & BLING, BLING. Then, Nasir meets the woman he is willing to change his lifestyle for. But can he, will his trifling A** mother stand for it? Nasir is forced to decide, do I keep the woman I love or do I provide for my child and satisfy the baby mama? Let Mrs. Williams take you for a ride in her novel of abandonment, love, and hate.

Title:A Bona Fide Diva

Alatta Jones is young, wealthy, hazel-eyed and beautiful. A superficial, selfish, and materialistic girl who thought the world evolved around her. Alatta's diva attitude gets her into many bad situations. While growing up, Alatta's father instilled in her that she was indeed a diva. He created Alatta's diva attitude when she was just a little girl and fed it by providing her with everything from living in an upscale community to ravishing her with diamond's n pearls. Suddenly, Alatta's life took a turn for the worst. Her father was killed, the day she gave birth to her son (who's born handicapped due to his father that wanted him dead). She was left to grieve her dad's death and deal with the guilt that her mother placed on her. Her mother blamed Alatta for the death of her father and for the present lifestyle they were forced to live when the fact of the matter is that her mother unknowingly contributed to his death. Now she's left to try to continue to live the lifestyle she was accustomed to living. Alatta wanted the best and was determined to get it, no matter what. Of course getting the finer things in life is not going to be as easy as she thinks. Alatta goes from riches to rags then back to riches again. It's what she goes though in her season of rags (prostitution, drugs, homeless, and very poor choices in men) that is most beneficial to her and teaches her the difference in just being a diva and being A BONA FIDE DIVA is. Take a ride with Nicole Renee in her drama filled novel of Alatta's ups and downs of trying to be a diva. I enjoyed reading this book even though it had a few grammatical errors and a little too many details for me. However, I would definitely recommend this novel. I absolutely LOVED the ending. Nicole said it best, ladies it's all right to spend your man's money, but ALWAYS have your own, and ALWAYS be in control of your own life.

Title:Robbing Peter
Author: Kia Dupree

Robbing Peter is a story about 3 women, who travels different roads in life, but their life's crosses the same path when 2 young teenagers of 1 of the women terrorized Washington, D.C. Vivica is a single parent who tries to raise her 5 children with what she has, or the lack of. She struggles to keep her control of her household and her children, while her husband only concern is where his next crack high is coming from. Belinda is a judge who should have it all together, but when she looks at herself she sees her mother characteristic looking back at her. she vows to break the pattern of being submissive to men. Iralaum trust no one with her heart because of what her mother has instilled in her. Until she meet Allen.Robbing Peter has twisted and turns, drama, and relationship issues that everyone can relate to.Kia Dupree is a great writer, that I will definitely reading more of her writing.

Title:My Lover, My Brother, My Daddy's Son

Zera, a 21-year-old college student returns home for spring break to find out her parents are divorce, and her father has moved on. But her mother is struggling with it. Zera listens to mother reason why, not satisfy with her answer, waits on her father to explain. Zera meets Regina Taylor, the new woman is her father life (at least that what she thinks) Regina is everything Zera mother isn't. She looks up to Regina for all this has accomplished, and the way she takes care of herself. Zera also meets Tashun (25), Regina's son, and is attracted to him. After coming close to having sex, Regina gives them some news that changes their relationship. Can Zera control her feeling for Tashun? Zera treats her mother so bad. I can't image treating my mother this way no matter what happen between my parents. There are always 3 sides to a story, her mother's, her father's and the truth. She is a spoiled, selfish, disrespectful, daddy girl with some serious issues. I dislike her the entire book. This book was just okay to me. I would probably read more of his writing because he has skills. This book just didn't give me anything.

This book of poetry is powerful. It's about life's journeys from family, pain, equality, to the ultimate sacrifice. Don't run from me black man was the one I couldn't get out my head. Maybe because I am a black woman, strong and independent, yet I need a black man to love me as I love him. So often he runs from a black woman for whatever reason he gives. But he needs to come back to the black woman because we were made for him. Linda said it so well in don't run from me black man. This book is poetry is one you can relate and understand, it makes you want to read more. Linda's, How can you say we have equality? speaks nothing but the truth about America's equality. Life is a roller coaster 2 is a must read. So buckle up and enjoy your ride.

Small Package is a story within a story. Trena, Zariah, Travesteen, and Cherise are members of The Somebody Hollar! Book Club. At their once a month sleepover, Zariah picks up a manuscript from an up coming author. As the 4 women discuss 'Small Packages', they laugh, cry, and get angry, (with the character and each other). They tell some secrets and bond closer together.

If you are debating getting yourself a little personal toy of your own, Small Packages is definitely the book for you. Analisa receives a small package for her birthday from a close friend. The package is a massager. Analisa is celibate, by choice, due to the men in her life had some serious issues. She decides to try her gift, in the privacy of her bedroom with no curtains, unaware of her neighbor 'Chance' enjoying the view from his balcony. The two meet, Analisa sees Chance as her chocolate, handsome and sexy knight & shining amour. They become lovers, both having a ravenously sexual appetite.

As the story unfolds you might want to be ready to take a cold shower or have your lover there and ready. Small Packages is a page-turner. It was a hot, erotic love story you want to add to your collections. You will not be disappointed with Sydney Molare novel.

Have you ever felt like you were in a place where you know you don't belong? You are not comfortable or at peace there, but you have no idea how to get out. Even though you attend church, you listen to the preacher, and go to Sunday school. You can't seem to apply it to your everyday life, and your world is still shattered. The person you are now is at war with the person you are suppose be.

What's in this book for me? Deliverance, restoration, encouragement and most of all, Hope. Rev. Tina Baker ,feeling trapped, but there is a way out, will help you take yourself and God out of the box you are living in. it will help you to stop living your life without options & choices. We shouldn't take the first thing that is offered to us. The enemy wants you to feel trapped, but he is a liar. God can do all things. Rev. Baker took situations in her life that she was having a difficult time dealing with, took scriptures from the bible, and tells how God's word delivered her out of her situation.

You must have a change mind, learn a new way to walk ("I am walking in the FOG, that's the FAVOR OF GOD") and enjoy the life God created for us

This book embraced me and held on to me from the beginning to the end. I read it and reread it to make sure I understood and took in her word that was written. This is a well-written book, a powerful book, and a book I believe everyone should read. We all have strongholds in our lives, and this book will help you realize what the damage the enemy can and will do if we don't have on our amour to fight with.

Rev. Tina Baker writing lets you know she is a woman of God. You can feel it with every page you turn. Once I started I could stop. I promise you this book will enrich your life with power, and purpose.

Title:Matters of the Heart

Everyone has matters of the heart, the young, and old, the rich and poor, blacks, white, men and women. Katilla Richardson is a nurse at Heartland Memorial Hospital; she is focus on getting her career together. Even at the expense of other. Katilla is trying to get in one of the toughest physical assistant program there is. She meets Dr. Kenneth Michael, who one of the best heart surgeon there. Kenneth is the answer to her dilemma. She sets things in motion to get what she wants.

Kenneth Michael is still mourning the death of his beloved wife. He has no interested in loving anyone or anything except his 10-year-old daughter and his job. That is until he meets Katilla and decides maybe it is time to try love again.

Katilla seduces Kenneth to get him where she wants him. She gets caught up with all her lies and deceitfulness. Kenneth learns the truth after Katilla crazy; dangerous ex lover returns to claim what he thinks is his.

Sabrina novel is full of drama, love, suspense and humor. This novel had me laughing out loud and sometimes at the bleak of tears. There are many twist and turns, with a few other characters. As the story unfold, they all seem to be faced with Matters of the Heart.

When Thugs Cry

“When Thugs Cry”, a book written by R. A. Pharaoh, When I received this book, I read the back cover, and I honestly thought it wasn’t going to be good, but as they say, you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. I decided to give it a try. To my surprise I truly enjoyed reading “ When Thugs Cry”, it gave me a sense of knowledge along with a hint of emotions.

When Thugs Cry takes one through the life of a thug in New York. The thug, Trick (Dred Scott) was into drugs, cars, money, killing, and holding down his block with his friend and partner Ra. While working on the block Trick meets Breeze. Breeze is a female thug who is into the same things Trick is, except Breeze is aware of the violence that was happening to black people by the very people who was suppose to serve and protect them. She tries to open Trick eyes to what is going on around him everyday that he didn’t seem to notice. After a while Trick and Breeze are married. Eventually Breeze is busted, and sentences to 7 to 15 years. She learns she is pregnant after being incarcerated. Trick asks his aunt to help him raise their child. She agrees under one condition, that he stops all illegal activities. Tricks begin to slowdown and train someone (J. Black) to hold down his spot until Ra is set free. J Black sets Trick up to be busted. While being busted Trick tried to escape, and was shot. Like his parents was, just under different situations. Trick life take another turn for the worst, he becomes ill. After being hospitalized, he learns his fate. The polices that shot him turned out to be his judge, jury, and executioners. Trick decides to get even.

This book was so much more than page after page about thugs. Mr. Pharaoh included topics about genocide, racism, egocentricity and AIDS. He made me think and search the Internet to see how much of his information was from actually events. I also ask asked just how far we (people of color) have truly advanced in Amerikkka.

Hood Rich

Am I My Brother Keeper…….. Crystal Perkins-Stell novel ‘Hood Rich’ is a compelling story of the Prince Family. You will be drawn into this page turning drama of Ballas & Playas. Demarques Prince, aka A Prince In Chains, is a playa by blood. Growing up in the hood of Detroit where ballas and playas are idolized, Prince strived to be a playa too. His brother, Ant, and Uncle, Silk, were also major playas in the game. Ant looked out for Prince, like a father. Their mother ‘Bean’ showed little love, she had her own deep dark secret. That secret would soon destroy her sons. Prince goes from a teenager to fatherhood, to life in prison. He gave up his freedom for a crime he didn’t commit, out of loyally and love to his brother. The question am I my brother keeper is the question? Prince went to jail a boy, but came out a man. As the story unfolds, Prince learns that Hood Rich means more than money, cars, & women. Prince had hard times, but through it all he had faith, overcame, and became a prosperous achiever.

Hood Rich is a face pace novel of life’s choices, love, loyally and faith. It was entertaining, and encouraging to read about life in the hood in such a creative way.

Prince said it best “Just because we fall down, we don’t have to stay down”
