MARKETING YOUR BOOK THROUGH C&B BOOKS DISTRIBUTION
New Membership Marketing Plan
Thanks to all who participated in the Queens Book Fair and we look forward to it being even bigger and better next year. In the meantime, however, C&B Books want you to know we didn't have a book fair to just sit around after it was over and wait until next year to do the same thing. No, the fair was held in order to bring attention to the self-published authors, and now that we have done so, we need to work at keeping you in the publics eye. The key to doing this is to Market-Market, Promote-Promote. We need to do tours--locally, then nationally. Authors need sales, not yearly, but daily. By the time Queens Book Fair 2006 rolls around, you will be working on new titles and will hopefully be world-known authors. So its best to keep your readers abreast of where you are touring, what you are presently working on, and where they can go to support you by purchasing your novel(s). This is where C&B Books Distribution comes into play.
C&B Books Distributions main objective is the marketing and distributing of their members books. Weve learned over the years that when a reputable company represents an author, it opens many doors. Therefore, we allow ourselves to act as agents for self-published authors who are under the umbrella of C&B Books, hence assisting those authors with trying to fulfill their dreams. However, in order for us to represent you in a professional manner, we need your assistance in the form of you creating a press kit which will serve as your point of sale. Dont know exactly what a press kit consist of? Dont fret. We have provided you with key components of a press kit below to assist you in getting started. Prepare this kit just as if you were preparing for a job interview. Ask yourself how you will best sell yourself?
For authors who may already have the following kit, you need not take these steps and we will get busy with the marketing of you and your book. However, if you are an author who doesnt have a press kit, C&B Books would be more than happy to prepare one for you. If youre interested in us doing so, please email or call us, and we will discuss the cost for that service once you have contacted us.
C&B Books Key Components for a Press Kit for Self-published Authors:
● 1. A nice folder to enclose documents is essential. It doesn't have to be expensive,
but be creative.
● 2. A short and precise bio. Use key points and grab their attention.
● 3. A recent press release. Boast about your book, sing your own praises, toot your
own horn. In other words, be proud of your accomplishment(s). Don't have a press
release? Simply email us, and we will have one prepared for you.
● 4. A professional and recent photo. No Polaroid photos that your cousin Ray-Ray
snapped at the family reunion, please.
● 5. At least ten bookmarks to be handed out to customers.
● 6. Business Cards. Some folders even have a slot for the cards. This is a nice,
professional touch indeed.
● 7. A photo of the book cover. An actual jacket is best. Be sure to include the price
and ISBN#.
● 8. A brief synopsis (description) of your book. This is a vital opportunity for you to
spark the customers interest. Hook em and reel them in.
● 9. Your marketing plan, including why one should purchase your book, who your
target market is, and what genre your title is to be listed under. Also provide your
contact information, (ex. your full name, name of your company, your phone
and fax numbers, and email address).
●10. Recent review of your book. If you do not have one available, send a review copy
to one of our reviewers listed on the site (www.cbbooksdistribution.com) and they
will be more than happy to provide you with one.
●11. Complimentary signed copy of your book(s) for review. A minor token of
appreciation for the person taking the time to review your novel(s).
●12. Your calendar and availability for book signing appearances. Please, don't book
what you can't fulfill.
Please note:
If you send multiple copies of your press kit, there will be no duplicating fees. However, if we must duplicate your package, there will be fees involved. You can contact us for that cost via phone or email. The following is the cost to the author:
●Reproduction
●Postage
●Books
●Press Kits
●Fliers
●Media Advertisement
●Web Site Advertisement
C&B Books Requirements:
● Must be a member of C&B Books Authors Club.
● Support fellow authors by welcoming one another, signing their guest books, and
Emailing one another about events or other important literary and marketing info.
● We ask that you utilize the Authors Message Board.
● Stay in communication with C&B, stay on top of your books, and inquire to see
what stores are responding, not just to see when your consignment is up.
● Send your book(s) to the reviewers of C&B for reviews, which help sales. The
more reviews the better.
Once you have completed the above steps, we will then be able to market your book(s).
Remember, we will be targeting stores nationwide, so if you wish to be part of this mass production, you will have to work with us in order for it to be a success. We will work hard for you, but you have to work harder for yourselves.
For example, say five stores decide they want to carry your book. C&B Books need to know the availability of your books. If we request four cases of your title, how fast can you get them to us? Its unprofessional to have a store request a case of books, and then the supplier is unable to fill the order in a timely fashion. Will you give the stores the same discounts you offer distributors? Are you willing to offer the books on consignment? We are acting on your behalf. Therefore, we need to know how you want to proceed. These are the questions you have to ask yourself before entering into your contract.
Each week we will target different stores nationwide. Providing a complimentary copy of your novel to each store targeted is optional. However, we feel your book will get more attention if it accompanies your press kit. It is the authors responsibility to provide complimentary copies of their books to the stores we target. The number of press kits/complimentary copies received will determine how many stores we reach out to. For instance, if you want us to target five stores for the month, you will provide us with five press kits/copies of your book.
As a member, you will be kept abreast of every store we send your kit to. If and when the store responds with an interest in carrying your title(s), we will contact you. At this point, two things will happen. First, C&B Books will inform them that we are the distributors for your title. Next, we will request that they arrange a book signing at their establishment for the author.
Book signings should be advertised at least two weeks prior to the event. Therefore, once you are booked, we will need to provide the stores with promotion and advertising materials. The author is free to provide these items to the store. However, if we do the promotions, there will be a fee for the materials we have to provide. We have a graphic artist on staff that can assist you, if needed.
We want our authors to understand we are in this business because we love being able to help striving self-published authors that need someone to rely on who will not take advantage of them. We realize authors, especially those who are self-published, work with limited resources, which is why C&B Books will try their best to assist you as cost-effectively as possible.
We thank you for your participation, and look forward to helping you achieve the recognition and success you deserve.
