ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sheryl Walker graduated high school as the third in her class and the highest ranked African-American student. She received several scholarships and honors, including the English department?s Creative Writing Award.
Sheryl attended the University of Maryland in College Park where she was admitted into the College Park Scholars International Studies Colloquium. She graduated with a B.S. degree in accounting in May 2005. She served as president for the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) chapter, as a resident assistant, and as vice president of membership for the Black Business Association (BBA). She received recognition from the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Education during several semesters as well as the Minority Scholars 2004 Accounting Scholarship, National Association of Black Accountants DC Metro Chapter 2004 Scholarship, and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated 2004 Essay Scholarship. Sheryl also studied abroad in South Africa and Lesotho during the winter term of her senior year.
Sheryl had four internships and also held a part-time job on campus during her senior year. She was involved with the Caribbean Student Association, was a staff writer for the campus newspaper The Eclipse, and was a mentor with the Black Student Union. Her community involvement included walking in various walks for AIDS and diabetes, as well as serving lunch to the homeless on a monthly basis. Sheryl is now working for a public accounting firm in New York and writes in her leisure. The Black Girl?s Guide To College Success: What No One Really Tells You About College That You Must Know is the first of a series of Black Girl?s Guides to come.
