A Message from National Bestselling Author Kimberla Lawson Roby |
|
Hello,
This is just a quick note to thank all of my readers for purchasing a copy of THE BEST-KEPT SECRET! The title immediately made the THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER LIST for Hardcover Fiction, based on the first week of sales, and it appeared in the February 20, 2005 newspaper edition. This accomplishment is one that every author continually strives for and words cannot express how much I appreciate every one of you---the people who are one hundred percent responsible for making this happen.

At a time when hip hop artists are in trouble again, comes the release of a very relevant novel. In his latest book, Rappers 'R In Danger, Relentless Aaron attacks the ills of the industry with his metaphor for why people (not just rappers) act the way they do. At the center of his latest crime-ridden story, is an aspiring rapper named Ringo. Ringo is friends with Brice & Cooksie, all three of whom launch an armed robbery at Just Rite Check Cashing on Queens Blvd. The robbery goes beyond botched when the proprietress storms out of a back room, guns blazing, in an attempt to thwart the coop. All of this takes place in the very begining of this robust 512-page novel, a book that also dives head-first into the ills of a low-class community in Bridgeport Connecticut, into a vicious gang in Newark, New Jersey, as well as it goes deep, deep, deep behind the scenes of a rapper's meteoric rise to fame. Through the story, Ringo tries to avoid all memories of the Queens BLVD massacre, as well as he works to keep a sound mind, a new name and his dreams in focus as he has no choice but to soak into the throws of all-things-MTV. In the meantime, he is still surrounded by the violence and adversity that keeps his rhymes tight.
