EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK:
On Your Mark! Let's Go Get Some Luv!
At about eight o'clock that evening, most of the love-deprived females, and just a few of the still-tied-to-they-mama's-apron strings- male entrants, for the church Singles auction arrived and rushed into the church auditorium. The bidding was scheduled for about eight-thirty, CP (Colored Peoples) time. However, a few of the physically challenged decided they should get there early and grab the best front row seats. Leading the bunch was Sister Need Sum. She was not only the President of the Singles Auction committee, but a lifetime member. Her hormonal posse surveyed the room, and made sure everything was set up just right. The lighting had to be at a certain angle and not too bright. Having their numerous flaws highlighted, was the last thing they wanted. Sister Need Sum and the other women checked each other for unshaven armpits, smeared lipstick, and acne. "Am I presentable?" She asked Sister Cill Lee. "I'd date you." Sister Cill Lee laughed. Everyone knew she wasn't joking so Sister Need Sum quickly moved away. One woman put on only one long curly eyelash. The eye looked like a deformed spider. Two other women discovered they needed to keep their arms down--- because they were not "sure." After several women exited the ladies bathroom with wet toilet paper hanging from the heels of their shoes, they thought close scrutiny was a good thing. The most important thing, for them, was to make certain they had the right denomination of money. All the one hundred and fifty dollar bills were to be placed in front of the twenty and under bills. That was just in case the ever evasive, scrumptious piece of eye candy, the six-foot, built for endurance, El Chocolate`, and foine, District Councilman Hip PoCrit, and any other buffed and single men that might stray in at the last minute. Those men came at a high price. They scanned the list of eligible men, which was held by a rubber band to a clipboard, and hung, upside down, on a nail. There were only about fifty eligible names on it. Unfortunately, there were more than two hundred eligible women. It was about to get ugly up in there and ugly was not just limited to the physical attributes of the entrants. As the love-deprived women complained and wailed about the unfairness of the situation and the slim pickings among the male entries, and the men did the same, Sister Need Sum had another one of her famous 'get a man' ideas. "Don't fret my sisters," she said with confidence, "I have a plan. Follow me."
