C&B BOOKS, was started in 1995, by Carol Rogers & Brenda Piper. Two years ago we started the C&B Book club, the club has grown immensely. The motivation behind this book business, was the lack of affordable books written by black authors. We decided to become an asset to our Youth and the African American commuitiy in a whole. We offer our books for less then the major stores, we knew this would provide our readers with a wider variety of reading material. We have, titles for all ages in all catagories, fiction, non-fiction, spiritual, inspirational, educational etc.

Im approached by a child of small tan face,
With a head of wild curly locks all over the place.
Greetings, little sister, I said with a smile,
Would you like to sit with me and talk for a while?
She skipped on over and sat right down,
Yet on her brow she wore an amusing frown.
What troubles you today, I began by saying,
Why are you not with the other children playing?

Im not like them, she explained to me,
But in your face my image I see.
My mamas as white as a lily but my father I do not know,
The faces that surround me are white wherever I go.
The others call me names I do not understand,
Some I cannot say, one of them is tar man.
Could you tell me please, how could this be?
Do you see black when you look at me?
I patted her hand and for a moment looked away,
Studying on the words that I should say.

When I look at you I see the queen of the Nile,
A warrior princess with grace and style.
A fresh new desert lotus awaiting full bloom,
Anxious to release its fragrant perfume.
I see a colorful bird with its wings stretched in flight,
And the bright moonbeam as it pierces the dark of night.
You are a daughter of Zion disconnected from her own,
Subjected to the lifestyle of those of little tone.
Let no one diminish your beauty or make you hang your head,
Be proud of the blackness born within your soul, instead.

Winner

We have a winner from Mother's Day Contest. Congratulations Cynthia Highsmith-Hooks
Thank you for participating in C&B; Books Contest.

Mom, you have to know that no one in this world played a more important part than you in shaping "the soul of this black woman". Because of you, I am strong, proud and am able to do the things that I do. If I experience any measure of success, without question, it can be traced back directly to you and no one else. You can take pride in that and full credit for it. You should also know that none of your sacrificing went unnoticed, though it may have seemed like it many times. Nor did it go unappreciated, despite the fact that it was rarely acknowledged openly. I always knew you had my back-still do. And for that, I consider myself the luckiest daughter in the world, because you're my mom and I wouldn't have it any other way, even with all the hard times we had to go through. There's no one I'd trust my life with and that of my own son more than I trust you. And I'm not even going on a limb with that trust because you've proven time and time again that trusting you is one of the safest bets I could ever make. I owe you my life and the best compliment anyone could ever pay me would be to say I'm "Anna Doris' daughter". Because I am. And I will always be proud of that.

Your Daughter,
Cynthia Renee

My Mother's One Of A Kind
by Lynn Williams [email protected]

She's as soft and graceful as a butterfly,
Yet as strong and courageous as a grizzly bear.
Her heart is large enough to hold everyone's pain and joy.
Her hands are always gentle and soothing.
Her arms are always warm and tender.
She works hard to make a home feel like home,
and she strives to make life pleasant
and comfortable for those she loves.
She never fails to go that extra mile to
make the holidays happy and memorable.
Her job is the most difficult and
demanding ever known to any human being,
yet she's fully dedicated to the task.
She's always there for her family,
guiding them and keeping them safe from harm.
She owns a magical way to raise spirits and make everything feel better.
And her sympathy, unselfishness and forgiveness are unending.
All that anyone is or could ever hope to be can be attributed to a mother.
She instills the teachings that will last a lifetime.
She sows the seeds of virtue and morality, and in the process,
she opens up love and vast horizons.
She's always watching and hoping that
her children's goals will have meaning.
She always listens and tries to understand
even when it's difficult to do so.
She's a true friend in every sense of the word.
She's noble and sublime,
And holds all the beauty of a golden day,
Yet even during the storms,
She always shines bright like an evening star.
Her name should be honored well,
For she's the closest thing to God on earth.
